We took a road trip south of New Orleans to check out the destruction and clean up from hurricane Katrina. The more populated areas have slowly come back but the outlying parishes still show a good amount of damage and abandonment even after nine years.
The courthouse was severely damaged in 2002 due to arson at a cost of $2.5 million. The fire was set to destroy evidence in criminal cases against friends and customers of Chancey’s motorcycle repair shop, but the evidence against Chancey's cronies survived.
In 2005 hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans with a Category 5 hurricane causing over 105 billion dollars in damage. When the levees failed it released over 20 feet deep water throughout east New Orleans. To this day you can still see water lines on many abandoned structures around the east bank.
This site provides pictures, maps and information on abandoned locations, ghost towns and military compounds I explore throughout the United States of America.
