About Abandoned USA
This site provides pictures, maps and information on abandoned locations, ghost towns and military compounds I explore throughout the United States of America.
Old Plaquemines Parish Courthouse, Louisiana
Abandoned due to a 2002 fire that caused $2.5 million in damages.
Na’alehu Theatre, Maui
Found this abandoned movie theater on an afternoon drive across the island and had to explore.
Abandoned Fort Macomb, Louisiana
Fort Macomb is one of the better forts around New Orleans mainly because it’s untouched from the public.
Na’ālehu means “the volcanic ashes” in Hawaiian
Found this abandoned movie theater on an afternoon drive across the island and had to explore. The interior stage and seats were in pretty bad shape, but I was surprised to see no homeless or vagrants like many of the other locations I explored.
This theater was built in 1940 by the Hutchinson Sugar Plantation in Na’alehu, Hawaii. It orginally had 550 seats and serviced a population of 8,000 residents and 10,000 military troops stationed at South Point on the Big Island. The sugar plantation closed in 1996, and with fewer than 3,000 total population, the theater ceased running first run movies. The theater closed its doors in 2006 when the owners refused to fix a leaking roof that would cost $150,000 dollars. Since then vandals have trashed the projectors, screen and seats and other fixtures inside the boarded-up historic building.
